Chaplains Notes

A survey revealed that each of us every day looks at one of these.
They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and formats.
Most of us subsequently feel reassured.

Given one in my youth, I can still recall the stern warning,
"break it and you'll have 7 years bad luck!"

Got it yet?

It's simply a mirror.  Come to think of it, they're everywhere - even your bike has one, or is it two? (Last time I had a bike was in the 60's!)

The Bible doesn't exactly have the word ‘mirror’ in it - it does talk about "seeing our image in a glass", 2 Cor. 3 v 18; and James 1 v 23, 24.  Both references make a similar point.  

St. Paul makes the same point when he states that we are a 'new creature' - 2 Cor. 5 v 17, where he talks about the responsibility we have to enjoy and be sure we reflect this new image to an incredulous and constantly questioning unbelieving world.

This "new life" we have in Christ we are admonished to rejoice in and reflect upon.  With a view to asking the God and Father of us all to refine and equip us by His grace to more adequately reflect His wonderful working in our daily walk as His children and witnesses.  

Say, when was the last time you reflected in the manner directed in James 1 v 25.

Heard the old song of yesteryear? "What you are, speaks so loud, that the world can't hear what you say...?"

22 And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. So don’t fool yourselves. 23 For if a person just listens and doesn’t obey, he is like a man looking at his face in a mirror; 24 as soon as he walks away, he can’t see himself anymore or remember what he looks like. 25 But if anyone keeps looking steadily into God’s law for free men, he will not only remember it but he will do what it says, and God will greatly bless him in everything he does.
